The
period scenographies by the photographer Lejaren
À Hiller are at the centre of the
image of Sónar 2007. Lejaren's magnificent
series shows the History of Surgery through the
ages, using an expressionist and theatrical treatment
of light, a pictorial composition and a taste for
veiled eroticism.
However, if we look
closely, we can see the presence of an intruder
in each of the scenes |
Smiley, the icon par excellence
of late eighties acid music, has gatecrashed the
History of Surgery, like the joker who stands behind
the TV news correspondent and makes faces.
Smiley returns but does so in an absurd way, in
a context where it does not belong. The Sónar
2007 image seems to highlight the pointlessness
of all returns, whether to the past or the future,
and leaves the viewer with more questions than answers.
