You might not think that learning the cello for a decade could play a hand in Doc Daneeka's take on garage, house and UK funky. But then, the good doctor is full of surprises. Whether it's the bass drops on tracks like ‘Mario's Mushrooms’, the clipped vocal refrains of ‘Dizzee Heights’, or the crystal clear techno vibes of his recent album with Benjamin Damage for Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons label, the Doc keeps the flow bubbling – and the only catch-22 is whether to dance or trip out. And with a new single ‘Tobyjug’ on his own Ten Thousand Yen imprint, a touching post-pop gem featuring the vocal stylings of Hoya:Hoya affiliate Abigail Wyles, the future looks even brighter for this Welsh-born, Berlin-based prodigy.
