Once again, Sónar has captured the spirit of the festival and brings it together on a double CD featuring some of the most outstanding artists working today. A wide range of styles – hip hop, experimental rock, contemporary soul, avant rap, grime, electronic pop, house, techno…- that proves the musical vanguard is in very good health in a selection that mixes new talent with established names.
The first CD is defined by eclecticism, experimental sounds and the pulse of vocals. A selection that begins with the cutting-edge guitar-playing of Vini Reilly and his Durutti Column, and ends in the organic worlds of Radian, in between it passing through the voices of Jamie Lidell, Roisin Murphy, Noah 22 and Mocky, the unmistakable hip-hop of De La Soul and Subtle, the contemplative landscapes of Efterklang and Khonnor, the iconoclastic and personal pop of Hot Chip, Hood and Whomadewho, and the experimental sounds of Goodiepal, F.S. Blumm and Guido Möbius.
In the second CD, the rhythm is set by some of the most important names in electronic dance music today, such as M.I.A, LCD Soundsystem, Munk, Ada, Diplo, Joris Voorn, Booka Shade, Mu and Mark One, who have all left their mark in the first half of 2005. Tracks by Ellen Allien, The Soft Pink Truth, the duo Towa Tom (formed by Atom Heart and Towa Tei) and Mouse On Mars (in a track with the great Mark E. Smith from The Fall) are proof of their talent, while home-grown Paco Osuna and Iñaqui Marín add the most innovative techno being made in Spain.
“Sónar 2005” will go on sale in stores all over Spain on June 10.
