Telcosystems. Ryoichi Kurokaw.   Sónar 2007 | Sónar 5.1.   The festival introduces various works especially conceived for 5.1. sound system. MACBA and CosmoCaixa (see address in footnote below) will include a program of works expressly conceived for 5.1 sound systems. Employing high definition sound equipment they guarantee a surprising sensory experience. One same program in two different locations that explore the creative possibilities offered by the 5.1 and that indulge in the relationship between sound and space, one of the big themes that cuts through Sónar 2007. Sónar 5.1. program: 14th, 15th and 16th of June in continuous session Auditori MACBA y CosmoCaixa "SYNKEN", Transforma & O.S.T.  (50 minutes) The Berlin-based Transforma collective of video artists and the North American musician O.S.T. joining forces in this graphic work, which explores the similarities between the technological world and the organic world in a stunning combination of sonorities and graphic effects that is a cross between a film and VJ session “8 SECONDS OF WEIGHTLESSNESS”, Robin Fox, Ambarchi & Ng (40 minutes) On the soundtrack, Ambarchi and Ng experiment with harmonic sounds to create their own auditory world, in which sounds are constantly expanding and contracting, producing a permanently changing meditative atmosphere. “DROP”, Koichiro Tsujikawa & Cornelius (50 minutes) The clips from the album "Drop" by the brilliant Cornelius, directed by the Japanese master Tsujikawa, are undoubtedly among the most original around today. It is a completely unique style of animation which fits Cornelius’ meticulous electronica like a glove. “OPTOFONICA”, curated by Sonic Acts (90 minutes) A selection by Tez, director of Optofonica and Van del Velden, director of Sonic Acts, showcasing synthetic media and surround sound works by Ryoichi Kurokawa, Kim Cascone, Skoltz_Kolgen, Telcosystems, Kanta Horio, Otolab... among others. “TIME CODE MATTER”, Audiostore & Eavesdropper (45 minutes) In “Time Code Matter,” the texture of electronic sounds are configured according to codes from the natural world, in order to create abstract music with a strong physical presence – the result of the dissemination of sound through space. “FILES, GUYS AND CHOIRS”, Irmin Schmidt & Kumo (120 minutes) A collaboration between Irmin Schmidt, founder of the legendary group Can, and Kumo, which takes full advantage of the possibilities of spatialisation to play with a dizzy mixture of musical genres, ranging from rock to trance to contemporary music, while Kumo’s synthetic rhythms mutate around Schmidt’s piano and keyboards.
