Most producers can only dream of making one game-changing track in their career (if they’re lucky): Joy Orbison has been literally pumping them out since the start.
In 2009, he burst onto the scene with Hyph Mngo, blending dubstep’s kick-snare half time trudge with the poignant euphoria of UK hardcore. His first-ever release was an instant classic, helping catapult dubstep from midweek parties and London pirate radio to primetime airplay and dancefloors from Ibiza to Berlin.
He’s repeated the same trick countless times since, spending the past 16 years crafting - massive - crossover club tracks that defy labels. Whether introducing ballroom house to UK funky, stripping UK garage for spare parts, releasing a genuinely personal dance record, or teaming up with his mates to produce beats for drill artists, he’s never been tempted to rest on his laurels. In 2024 he scored his biggest success to date, with certified track of the year Flight FM, a warped bassline cut that sounds just as influential as Hyph Mngo did all those years ago (it even got a Fred Again remix).
