“Sometimes everything just falls into place…” says CC:DISCO!, remembering her “bucket list set” at Sónar by Night this year. 

Now available to listen to as SonarMix 028, the 90 minute session found her in a typically effervescent and unpredictable mood. “The crowd made me feel like I could do anything that night,” she says. Case in point, her final two tracks: the synth and strings of Godiego’s theme for cult Japanese TV show Monkey; and Sheryl Crow’s ode to hedonism ‘All I Wanna Do’. (“My best ADHD DJ moment ever” - as she’d quip later on Instagram.)

It’s all testament to the Australian selector’s core philosophy of keeping the audience guessing: “For me, DJng is about having the crowd have no idea about what’s going to come next”. So you’ll hear proto-tekno and trance (Dee Danie Dee’s ‘Ecstasy Energy’ and a Sacred Stones’ edit of D.F.X.’s classic, inclassifiable banger) alongside acid house (The Goodmen’s batucada powered anthem ‘Give It Up’); plus modern takes on tribal (Luca Lozano’s ‘Another Fine Mess’) and balearic (DJ Gigola’s ‘Mi Vida’).

Of course, this being CC: DISCO!, there’s also a hefty serving of disco classics, rarities and edits, from Pyschemagik’s cosmic flip of Chilly’s stone-cold classic ‘For Your Love’ and an Albion version of Mustang’s ‘Sandwich’ (listen out for the electrifying guitar solo) to the thundering percussion of Kat Mandu’s ‘The Break’. “What I saw that night cemented my views that DISCO WILL NEVER DIE,” she concludes. “Seeing people lose their minds to that epic disco section at the end really made my heart melt.” Turn up the volume and close your eyes, and maybe you’ll lose your mind a little too.
