The Basque DJ roams through UK soundsystem culture, with sets powered by bass pressure and slippery percussion

Originally from San Sebastián in the Basque country, but now firmly established in Manchester, Zuri has absorbed UK soundsystem culture at the source. Inspired by the percussive, bass-driven sounds that have emerged from London and Bristol, Manchester and Leeds, she draws a line between contemporary club sonics and classic heritage sounds.

A regular at storied Manchester venues - from the The White Hotel to Warehouse Project - she’s currently holding down a residency at the city’s most interesting new club, Ambers, which operates a no lineup policy (you just have to show up to find out who’s playing). That’s the kind of vibe that suits Zuri’s mixes, which flow between different styles and moods. From amped up grime and global club mutations, through to slippery, dubwise techno, plus plenty of (classic and contemporary) dubstep, she wanders through percussive, sub-bass-heavy sounds.

She mixes with a wisdom and ease beyond her years, meaning she’s the perfect choice to warm up Sónar’s biggest stage on Friday just before Skepta appears.
